I have some education through Ca State University and the local community colleges, Sacramento City College and American River College. However, my experience with mental illness comes from going through this journey with my son, Anthony, since 2005.
I received a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. Currently I’m attending the University of San Francisco School of Education seeking my M.A. in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy. Throughout my life, I’ve been closely affected by individuals living with mental illness, substance use disorder, social injustice, inequality, lack of resources and lack of community. I’ve seen how society has received us both socially and systematically. This is what sparked my desire to pursue a career in therapy and join the mission for advocacy and social justice.
My Name is Barbara Williams I am a realtor. I have been helping people buy and sell real estate for over 17 years. My background comes with 35 years working in telecommunications in various capacities: as a manager, as nonmanagement and as a CWA union steward. During my tenure with AT&T as a Chief Steward I worked with the United Way Employee Giving Campaign for many years helping nonprofit organizations raise money ever year. I partnered with countless nonprofit community agencies and their representatives throughout Sacramento. I also toured the agencies so that I could see first hand the services they provided such as mental heath, feeding the hungry, services for underprivileged children, alzheimer's to name a few. Years later mental illness impacted me and my family personally. Due to the struggles we encountered it was a natural fit when I was asked to participate in the LAF Love Anthony Foundation.
